🗓️ This Weekend's Picks
The weekend's four best, July 30 – August 2.
⭐ Editor's Pick — Utah Championship (Thu–Sun): Pro golf is in Ogden for the first time — walk the ropes at Ogden Golf & Country Club at least one afternoon.
🎸 Tonight — Of Monsters and Men at Ogden Twilight: The "Little Talks" band closes out the amphitheater's night — sold out, so it's a heads-up for ticket-holders and a warning about 25th Street traffic.
😂 Best Date Night — Robert Mac at Wiseguys (Fri & Sat): A Comedy-Central-winning headliner and an easy night out downtown.
🥕 Best Family — Ogden Farmers Market (Sat, 8 a.m.): Historic 25th Street at its best before the afternoon warms up.
🥵 Beat the Heat: Your Cool-Weekend Game Plan

The splash pads and the canyon will do a lot of the parenting this weekend.
The National Weather Service has an Extreme Heat Warning up for our area from noon Saturday to 9 p.m. Sunday, with highs reaching 105°. The weekend's still packed — you just want to play it smart.
🌡️ The weekend forecast
Friday 98° · Saturday 100° · Sunday 95° — sunny, dry, and hot. Overnight lows only dip to around 70°, so it won't cool off much until the sun's fully down.
🚨 Heat Survival Checklist
💧 Drink water before you're thirsty
🧴 Wear sunscreen
🧢 Bring a hat
🐶 Protect pets — hot pavement burns paws
👵 Check on elderly neighbors and anyone without A/C
🧊 Do anything outdoors before 10 a.m. or after 7 p.m.
Where to actually stay cool:
🏔️ Go up, not out. Snowbasin and the Ogden Valley run roughly 10–15° cooler than the valley floor. A gondola ride, a shady hike, or the Blues & Brews Car Show (more below) all buy you real relief.
🌊 Get on the water. Pineview Reservoir is the classic move — earlier is better for a parking spot and a patch of shade.
📚 Claim the free air conditioning. Every Weber County Library branch is a cool, free place to spend the hottest hours — the Ogden Valley branch even pairs nicely with a canyon day.
💦 Let the kids run it off. City splash pads and pools are your friend from about 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., when being outside otherwise isn't much fun.
🕕 Time it. Do anything outdoors before 10 a.m. or after 7 p.m. Midday is for shade, water, and indoors.
And know the warning signs. Never leave kids or pets in a parked car, even "just for a minute." If someone gets dizzy, nauseated, or stops sweating, get them cool and hydrated right away.
💡 Still doing Roy Days or the golf? Great — just go early or after dark and bring more water than you think you need. The Roy Days parade (9 a.m.) and fireworks (10 p.m.) are the cool bookends; skip standing in the open at 2 p.m.
🗓️ Your Weekend Game Plan
🌆 Friday Night
Wait for the sun to drop, then head to Harrisville Main Park for a free, family "National Treasure" under the stars — backyard games at 6, movie at dusk. Downtown, Robert Mac brings his Comedy-Central set to Wiseguys (7:30), "Hairspray" lights up Peery's Egyptian (7:30), and WSU's Browning Center screens "The Lake" in the Great Salt Lake Film Series (7 p.m.) — all blessedly indoors and air-conditioned.
☀️ Saturday
Beat the heat with a plan. Start early at the Ogden Farmers Market (8 a.m., Historic 25th) while it's still pleasant. Midday, escape up the canyon to the Snowbasin Blues & Brews Car Show (noon–6). As the valley cools, spread a blanket for Handmade Moments at the Ogden Nature Center (gates 5:30, music 7). And yes — Roy Days owns the day in Roy (parade 9 a.m., car show 11–3, fireworks 10 p.m.), with the Utah Championship's third round out at Ogden Golf & Country Club.
🌙 Sunday
Sleep in, then let someone else crown a champion: the Utah Championship final round decides it at Ogden Golf & Country Club. For a cooler, slower morning, Snowbasin's Mountain-Top Brunch (10–2:30) trades the heat for a view. "Hairspray" plays its Sunday matinee (4 p.m.) if you'd rather stay in the dark and the A/C.
⭐ If You Only Do Four Things
⭐ Editor's Pick — Snowbasin Blues & Brews Car Show (Sat)
Classic cars, live blues, and cold local brews at 6,400 feet — it's the most fun you can have while also being the coolest person in the county, literally. Why: it turns "too hot to do anything" into the whole point.
📍 Snowbasin Resort · 🕛 Noon–6 p.m. · 🎟️ $10 to walk in ($25 to show a car)
👨👩👧 Best Family — "National Treasure" Movie in the Park (Fri)
A free, after-dark movie once the day finally cools off, with backyard games first. Why: free, easy, and perfectly timed to the one hour it's comfortable outside.
📍 Harrisville Main Park · 🕕 Games 6 p.m., movie at dusk (~9:20) · 🎟️ Free
💑 Best Date Night — Handmade Moments at the Nature Center (Sat)
Soul-swing and indie-folk on a blanket under the trees as the evening finally breaks. Why: about as romantic as a Weber County Saturday gets.
📍 Ogden Nature Center, 966 W. 12th St · 🕔 Gates 5:30, music 7 p.m. · 🎟️ $25 member / $30 non-member
🆓 Best Free — Ogden Farmers Market (Sat)
Peaches, kettle corn, and Historic 25th at its best. Why: get there at 8 while it's still bearable — it's the best free morning in town.
📍 Historic 25th Street · 🕗 8 a.m.–1 p.m. · 🎟️ Free

🌟 ONE GOOD THING
Ogden asked a lot of residents this year — a full fireworks ban through Pioneer Day, driven by extreme drought — and the community delivered. Fire Chief Mike Slater reported zero fireworks-related fires in the city during the discharge period. "The community really responded," he said. In a summer this dry and this hot, that's a whole lot of neighbors looking out for each other.
