Balogun Cleared for Belgium Clash After Red Card Reversal

Big news for the USMNT: Folarin Balogun will be on the pitch when the U.S. takes on Belgium in the Round of 16.

The striker looked destined to miss the match after being shown a red card in the Americans' 2-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina β€” a game in which he'd already scored the opener. But tournament officials reviewed the dismissal and ruled it the result of a VAR protocol error, wiping out the suspension and restoring his eligibility.

It's a massive break for the U.S. Balogun has been one of the team's most dangerous weapons all tournament, delivering clutch goals and stretching defenses as the Americans battled through to the knockout rounds.

Now, with their in-form striker back in the lineup, the U.S. heads into the Belgium matchup with a real shot at extending this historic run β€” and punching a ticket to the quarterfinals.
