I'm 63 With $1.5M. Can I Spend $10K a Month?
You’ve saved $1.5 million. Now comes the real test.
Can it produce $10,000 a month, or will that pace drain your portfolio?
Most retirees do not get a clear answer until it is too late.
The issue is not just how much you have. It is whether your portfolio was built to pay you, not just grow.
That difference can determine whether your money lasts decades or starts breaking down early.
Sequence of returns, taxes on withdrawals, healthcare costs, and whether the 4% rule still applies all play a role.
Fiduciary advisors created a breakdown showing what drives sustainable income and why the same $1.5M can produce very different outcomes.
If you have $1M or more invested, do not guess.
🗓️ This Weekend's Picks
The weekend's four best, July 30 – August 2.
⭐ Editor's Pick — Utah Championship (Thu–Sun): Pro golf is in Ogden for the first time — walk the ropes at Ogden Golf & Country Club at least one afternoon.
🎸 Tonight — Of Monsters and Men at Ogden Twilight: The "Little Talks" band closes out the amphitheater's night — sold out, so it's a heads-up for ticket-holders and a warning about 25th Street traffic.
😂 Best Date Night — Robert Mac at Wiseguys (Fri & Sat): A Comedy-Central-winning headliner and an easy night out downtown.
🥕 Best Family — Ogden Farmers Market (Sat, 8 a.m.): Historic 25th Street at its best before the afternoon warms up.
🎆 Roy Throws Its Biggest Party of the Year This Saturday

Roy Days ends the way it always does — fireworks over Eagle Lake at 10 p.m. Saturday.
Pancakes at dawn, a parade down 1900 West, and fireworks over Eagle Lake — Roy Days peaks Saturday.
It's already rolling: Night Golf tees off tonight at 10 p.m. at Eagle Lake Golf Course. But Saturday, August 1 is the main event, and it's an all-day affair.
Start with the community breakfast at the Hope Center (6:30–9 a.m.), or run off the pancakes first at the 5K and 2-mile walk from the fire station at 7. Then stake out a curb for the parade down 1900 West at 9 a.m. From there it's George E. Wahlen Park all afternoon — vendor booths, a fun zone, and live entertainment from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., with a car show from 11 to 3. The day closes with fireworks over Eagle Lake at 10 p.m.
It's free to come and enjoy — just note a few pieces, like the 5K and night golf, ask you to sign up ahead. Grab breakfast early, too; the lines build once the 5K finishes.
📌 Worth Knowing Before You Go
🚗 Parking fills early — leave the car a block or two off 1900 West and walk in
🎟️ Free to attend — only the 5K and night golf need sign-up
🌞 Shade is limited at Wahlen Park — bring hats, sunscreen, and water
🎆 Fireworks start at 10 p.m. over Eagle Lake
🚻 Restrooms and food vendors throughout the park
📅 Date: Saturday, August 1, 2026 (Night Golf tonight, Thursday, July 30)
🕖 Time: Breakfast 6:30–9 a.m. · Parade 9 a.m. · Vendors/Fun Zone 11 a.m.–7 p.m. · Car Show 11 a.m.–3 p.m. · Fireworks 10 p.m.

⚛️ Weber County Wants to Talk Nuclear Energy

Ogden Eccles Conference Center
The county is opening the floor to residents on whether nuclear power has a future here — and you can be in the room.
Weber County, with the Utah Office of Energy Development, is hosting a free public Nuclear Energy Symposium on Wednesday, August 5. It's built as a community conversation, not a sales pitch — keynote talks, panels on feasibility and workforce readiness, interactive exhibits, and open Q&A for anyone who wants to weigh in.
Organizers Stephanie Russell (Weber County Economic Development Director) and Jessika Clark (County Public Relations Manager) say it's aimed at residents, businesses, educators, and workforce partners alike. Admission is free, but space is limited and registration is required through Eventbrite.
📅 Date: Wednesday, August 5, 2026
🕖 Time: 3:30–7 p.m.
📍 Location: Ogden Eccles Conference Center
🎟️ Admission: Free — registration required (spots limited)
🔗 Register: Search "Weber County Nuclear Energy Symposium" on Eventbrite
🚧 IF YOU'RE DRIVING THIS WEEK
Two projects are still worth routing around. The northbound I-215 off-ramp to the airport is closed — give yourself extra time if you're catching a flight. And crews are ramping up SR-177 (the West Davis Highway) construction as it extends north into West Point, so expect weekday work and slower going near the county line. And Saturday morning, remember the Roy Days parade closes 1900 West around 9 a.m.
🛫 I-215 NB airport off-ramp: closed now
🚧 SR-177 (West Davis Hwy): construction underway
🎆 1900 West, Roy: parade closure Saturday morning

🌟 ONE GOOD THING
Ogden asked a lot of residents this year — a full fireworks ban through Pioneer Day, driven by extreme drought — and the community delivered. Fire Chief Mike Slater reported zero fireworks-related fires in the city during the discharge period. "The community really responded," he said. In a dry, nervous summer, that's a whole lot of neighbors looking out for each other.
